SKCV Children’s Trust-Child-Participation

 Problems faced by the children in the society

  • Broken Families

  • Parents illiteracy, ill-health, poverty and bad habits.

  • Infanticides and Feticides.

  • Forced labour.

  • Affected / Infected with HIV/AIDS.

  • Imprisonment of father of the families.

  • Adults exploiting us on streets.

  • Orphans because of AIDS parents.

  • Adults do not accept us.

  • Sexual abuse and exploitation.

  • Discrimination in school according to merit.

  • Parents irresponsibility of our development.

  • Drug-Addiction.

  • Child Marriages

  • Insufficient infrastructure and improper proportion of teachers in schools.

  • Negligence of Health Authorities in government hospitals.

  • Police are behaving arrogantly towards us.

  • Welfare departments are in worse conditions in providing amenities to us.

  • Schools environment is in very unhealthy conditions.

  • STD booths are not accepting children to call to 1098

  • Mid-day meals are not served properly and monitoring is worse. We should stand and eat where we face much difficulty.

  • Welfare hostels facilities are miserable

  • Discrimination according to ranks achieved in the classes.

  • Child Line staff are very less to attend cases.

  • Discrimination of children in schools according to rank wise.

  • Teachers have misconception that all the children in the class understood the subject.

  • Parents feel that children should work and earn, illiteracy is the cause.

  Influencing Factors:

  • Violation of Right to Protection

  • Inadequate health services

  • Gender Discrimination influenced in all aspects of life.

  • Vulnerable sections were mostly discriminated in Right to Education

  • Government Welfare Institutions are working for every issue but role is being neglected and not rendering functionally.

  • Poverty

  • Parents habits, which are hurdles of our development.

  • Our participation is not accepted and strictly neglected.

 Solutions

  • Counseling to the parents regarding all the issues of children in difficult circumstances. (Regarding Child Marriages, Drug Addiction, Imparting knowledge about child participation, Parents Divorce results in abandoning children development.).

  • Implement functional welfare measures by NGOs and Child related Government Organizations.

  • Child Labour department should work effectively in eradication of  child Labour.

  • We should not be neglected by Government Hospitals authorities and  equip with all the facilities in curing our ill health. Children Ward should be monitored in special interests.

  • Media should be proactive and voice our violations. They should focus our rights and sensitize the civil society.

  • Media should frame special features on  child related issues by focus in electronic and print media.

  • Education Department should function effectively in providing safe environment, quality education, joyful learning, life skills creating a suitable school curriculum.

  • Police should be proactive and receive the street children on the humanitarian grounds and should help them for their development.

  • Police should observe that the acts should be implemented properly and the rights shouldn’t be violated.

  • Attitudinal changes must arouse in civilians and they should not employ children.

  • Creating child friendly clubs by Municipal Corporations in all the wards.

  • NGOs also should concentrate their work in the rural areas for rescuing the child.

  • Government has to provide schemes for the eradication of poverty and in increasing the standards of the living.

  • Sensitize the society on protection and promotion of the rights of the children by Government, Voluntary Organizations and Media.

  • Child Line branches should be opened and increase the staff personnel.

  • Child Magazine should be published in the Vijayawada city.

  • Corporal Punishment is banned and related should strictly monitor its implementation.

  • Women and Child Welfare Department can be focused more on gender sensitization and promotion of girl child activities at city level.

  • Telephone department should send a curriculum to all the STD booth personnel regarding the 1098 and its importance and allow them to be preferred first when they need a call to child line by concerned department.

  • A special committee should be formed to inspect the Mid Day Meals Scheme at city level.

 Conclusion:

We, the child participants, strongly put forward the above resolutions. Let the responsible adults/guardians/parents/etc commit them selves to the promotion and protection of the rights of every child in the Vijayawada and other cities, especially children in distress,  so that they may have the life in fullness. By enabling the rights of children guaranteed in the UNCRC be respected and promoted to make Vijayawada a child friendly city with the participation of children.
